The Scent Of Religion

The association is strong with people and culture.

To understand humanity is to understand and accept religion within each of our limitations.

Not all people believe the supernatural aspects of a belief, but many love the ceremony, community and art embodied in all religious ways.

It’s true that there are difficulties in accepting the whole package.

Atheists are borne out of a strong desire to live without supernatural belief.

Many people have a good sense of skepticism in their day to day lives.

There is a lot more we have in common than we are different.

Science and philosophy attempt to fill the gap.

But we all look for answers.

And platitudes are mostly empty answers or partial at best.

So, the struggle to live and thrive is still a good goal.

I hope you continue to discover meaning and purpose for your entire life.

Daylight Saving Time (DLS)

Seeing the ‘big picture’ with DLS seems to be about agreement on society’s need.

Most argue about the pros and cons but most go with the flow because of it’s basic need to produce a working schedule.

Like it or not, it is time to prepare for the time change,

With all the stuff we do these days it is nice to have a heads up.

If for some crazy reason you want more information, it is simple to google the date and time for your location.

After reading all about it on Wikipedia, you may want to check out the article to settle your own mind about some pro or con about this silly but necessary change.

Being Your Best Self Is Part of The ‘Good Life’

Feeling is an important part of a reaction.

Feeling ‘down’, at your best, will produce a small reaction.

If you have excellent experience, mental health and can navigate through life with care, you probably live the ‘good life’.

Feeling ‘up’, at your best, will produce a small reaction.

Learning to decide what to do with your reaction will improve your’s and other’s well being.

Human Behavior (People are able to change)

Understanding who you are by understanding how your brain grows and operates.

What do genes have to do with behavior? This is most misunderstood.

Genes have nothing to do with behavior. But the environment turns on genes (or the instructions). Environment’s meaning changes from small to big. This area of understanding and facts is well worth learning all you can.

There is no determinism from genes because of our diverse environments. Think about it. What does culture have to do with it?

Brains and genes and culture coevolve.

Individual selection? Kin selection? Reciprocal altruism? It is very complicated it understand.

Be damned sure you understand human behavior before you judge yourself or others.

Learn to be your best self!

“Behave”. By Robert M Sapolsky

Earth Day April 22, 2018

The slogan this year is to consume less and pledge more…

There is too many plastics being consumed and I pledge to cook more food and buy less plastic.

I will ‘put my money where my mouth is’ and pledge more cash and resources into getting kids more playing time outside.

Climate Change is a good cause to help in the year to come, going to earth day is a proper way to change myself.

I need to read and write and therefore research this day today!

Sugarless

Try a glass of water.

Hell, try fasting. But, if you get hungry, eat Whole Foods

Eat more protein, fiber and and good fats (olive oil, avocado, ground flaxseed).

Give up sugar, you will still eat it by mistake, but give it up…

You will feel less cranky and more energy.

Try less sugar, your body and mind will thank you.

Yes, I Am Willing To Forgive And Forget

Truth, no one has ever gotten to know me as good as I know myself…

Except for the loving and caring understanding of my friends and family.

The past is full of connections that bridge my present, future and the future beyond my life.

I am willing and able to forgive and forget because of my strong tie to family and friends. They are my rock to all that may be.

I still vaguely feel fears that wisp up from time to time, but my love and connection with others bring more joy to life and the life of others.

I sincerely let go of the past mistakes and embrace the ‘joy still felt’ with people who share a great narrative from our history and shared life experiences in all we say and do.

I love our epic stories!

Reading The Writing On The Wall

It says there is a limit to people, places and things.

This is important when trying to assess the use or how to treat oneself or others.

The proper use of impressions is like having a moral compass with problems we are faced with in our day to day lives.

Sometimes it is best to follow the rules or tried and true methods worked out by previous generations.

The past has paid dearly for all the answers, wealth and experience past down from our people, countries and more…

Presently, we are learning much and receiving much that is roughly described as good bad and ugly.

And the future holds more of the same.

Yet, moral discernment is a complex ability.

We need to use it in all manner of ways.

Today I fail.

Again, and again, and then, perhaps I will learn to set myself right.

In this same sense, some of us live and learn to some degree…

What we write on this wall is a true measure of our moral responsibilities.

I like to read and believe ever word on this wall of ours.

May we all contribute many more paragraphs….

The Disease Called Loneliness

“Excuse me,” a young woman raises her hand on the bus. “Does anyone know when to pull the bell to get off at the mall?”

Meanwhile two other young women turn to each other with grimacing disapproval.

The individual is building self esteem and keeps low expectations.

The paired couple are attempting to discourage this young woman’s building her self-esteem.

The pattern of any person learning to get their needs meet can be taught by parents, schools, churches and by playing in other social groups.

To even make a friend is a risk many people will not do these days.

Social media and other devices are prompting people to choose a “bad behaviour over a good one”.

People prefer their smartphone to risking self esteem to pursue low expectations from social activities that are used as venues to pursuing greater expectations and greater risking of self-esteem necessary to overcome lonely feelings.

The “great debate” has yet to become public over issues of loneliness, but we can all agree it is costly and in epidemic proportions.

Take every risk presented to you, wherever you stand on the loneliness continuum to foster your subjective wellbeing!

She may have a late nap and be up forever

Worries and concerns of a young mom talking to her friend on the way to the store, baby in tow.

She is grateful, thriving and living in a good way.

Contrasting situations arise downtown, but mom feels good taking her young baby out for a stroll with the support of a good friend.

So many parts to a well rounded life, what will this woman do in this lifetime?

Who will her baby become?

How will her family live over the next twenty five years.

There is a lot going on out there.

We have a lot of changes, choices and charges to work out.

But it is nice to smell the roses and acknowledge the traditional aspects from time to time.
